Energy Consultant: Products: Mark Rosenbaum, Energysmiths
2009 Objective: Demonstrate net-zero energy classroom construction with proven thermal and electrical performance.
Serious Solution: SeriousWindows with finless wide-perimeter aluminum exterior casing that provided architectural flexibility in locating windows closer to the interior wall surface within a very deep wall assembly. Setting windows closer to the inside of the wall assembly serves to reduce the “tunnel effect” of deep walls and increases the amount of usable visible light entering the room. The project was spearheaded by Mark Rosenbaum, a nationally-recognized expert in high performance and zero energy and Passive House building design. Post construction, Mark remarked that, “one of the amazing testimonies to the success of our work is the migration of teachers to the new space for after-school meetings, because it is the most comfortable room in the school.”
