Woburn Memorial High SchoolArchitect: Tappe Associates, Inc.
Application: This new 340,000 sf high school accommodates both academic and civic programs. In addition to accommodating 1,500 students and a full complement of academic programs, the school acts as a community resource, incorporating an emergency preparedness center, a community arts center, a cable television studio and a 2,500 seat stadium.
Serious Solution: Two different 1 3/8” OA “tuned” SeriousGlass packages were used to optimize solar gain according to North-East and South-West facing facades. Glazing solution contributed to CHPS certification and was part of an integrated sustainable design approach including photo voltaic panels, gray water storage, and fuel cells. The school received two major grants from the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative and a portion of the funding for the project came from significant utility rebates for the use of innovate technologies and energy use reductions.
