Why Windows

Our buildings alone consume 40% of our nation’s energy. The energy lost through inefficient windows, by some estimates, represents 30% or more of building heating and cooling energy. While it may be generally accepted that dual pane windows (invented in 1865) are energy efficient – they aren’t. We can solve this problem today with super-insulating windows that can reduce heating and cooling costs by as much as 40%.

What’s the R-value?

A measure of window insulation is R-value. The higher the R-value, the better. A single pane window has an R-value of R-1, dual pane is R-2, and Energy Star window R-value requirements do not exceed R-3.3 (depending on geography).

Serious Savings with High R-value Windows

Super-insulating windows of high R-values of R-5.0 or higher can help you save the highest percentage of heating and cooling costs when compared to other windows available today, even when compared to typical Energy Star windows. High R-value windows deliver comfort benefits, and savings benefits, year after year.

When compared to single pane, a dual pane window saves only about 10% in heating and cooling costs, yet high R-value windows can save up to 40%. (Based on the U.S. Department of Energy’s LBNL RESFEN model and an average taken from 5 typical cities across the U.S.)
