Salem, Oregon

Architect: Nathan Good

Windows: Series 925

Construction Type: New Construction

Design Standard: Passive House

Objective: Father-and-son team Larry and Blake Bilyeu, of Bilyeu Homes Inc., built this custom, two story house for owners Sarah Evans and Stuart Rue.  Sarah and Stuart enlisted the Bilyeus to create one of the most energy efficient, air-tight homes in the country by adhering to the Passive House model.  Passive House is based on super-insulation, an air-tight envelope, tailored and tuned window placement and glass package according to the building's orientation towards the sun, and internal heat from its residents to maintain air temperature.

Serious Solution: The windows are super-insulating fiberglass framed SeriousWindows 925 Series with a full frame R-value of R-7 and an AAMA air infiltration rating of less than 1.

Other sustainable features: a single mini-split heat pump will be enough to heat the home when needed; 85% recycled materials and a solar water heater. It's the first Passive House on the West Coast and one of the few in the nation. Read about why Sarah and Stuart chose SeriousWindows in their own words on their blog.
