CoreHaus... Almost DoneCoreHaus

Portland, Oregon

Architect: Robert Hawthorne

Windows: 925 Series

Construction Type: New Construction

Design Standard: Passive House

Objective: The goal of the CoreHaus is to establish a model for sustainable urban development.  The idea is to design a highly efficient home that minimizes energy consumption and can be adapted to the reality of American cities.  Architect Robert Hawthorne set out to conquer these objectives using the principles of the Passive House Institute US: well insulated, virtually airtight, minimal thermal bridging, and highly tuned to optimize solar heat gain for the climate and orientation of the house.  The result: up to 90% reduction in energy usage!

Serious Solution: SeriousWindows Series 925 make the difference.  The Passive House modeling on this house estimates the home's total energy use would be 16.3 kbtu/sf/year. This compares with the national average energy use index (EUI) of 46 and means with a PV system the house could achieve net zero energy use on an annual basis. SeriousWindows, featuring a U-factor of 0.11 (Passive House US recommend 0.8 or lower), make this extraordinary energy profile possible.
