Evergreen Adobe-style HomeArchitect: Thomas Doerr of Doerr Architecture
Windows: 725 Series
Construction Type: New Construction
Design Standard: Net Zero Energy
Objective: Architect Thomas Doerr, along with builder EcoFutures, set out to design a home that generated more energy than it consumed on this beautiful lot in the Rocky Mountains. Owners Mike and Ann Moore wanted a luxury home that took full advantage of the breathtaking views of the continental divide, provided space to display their art collection and achieved Net Zero Energy consumption. Doerr approached the project with a traditional southwest adobe style, but hidden within, the home boasts the best techniques and technologies. This strategy paid off in spades - the Moore's house was verified with a Home Energy Rating System (HERS) of -3! The score of an average new home is 100.
Serious Solution: SeriousWindows 725 Series stepped up to meet the performance challenges posed by the cold and windy site conditions at the Moore's home, which is located in the foothills just west of Denver at 7,700 feet. In fact, the primary heat source in the Evergreen House is passive solar heat gain from their custom-tuned south-facing windows! From the SeriousWindows, with tuned glazing, to the use of natural and reclaimed products, this home is optimized for both energy efficiency and sustainable design.
