Sungazing HouseSungazing House

Park City, Utah

Architect: Jean Yves Lacroix, Lacroix Designs

Windows: 925 Series

Construction Type: New Construction

Design Standard: Passive House, Net Zero Energy, LEED Platinum, NAHB Emerald

Objective: Sungazing House meets the gamut of green building standards available today and seeks to blend the highest level of energy-efficiency with luxury and livability.  Owner Kevin O'Meara was inspired by the Passive House standard in particular which seeks reduce at least 90% of energy needs compare to the average home.  With two sets of solar panels (one for hot water and one for electricity), Sungazing House achieves Net Zero Energy consumption from the grid.

Serious Solution: In Park City, where the winter climate is often sub-zero, super-insulating 925 Series SeriousWindows play a central role in the passive solar heating design.  The O'Meara's SeriousWindows are tuned perfectly to allow appropriate solar heat gain and complemented by overhangs on the south-facing windows to prevent excess sun in the summer.

Sungazing House also won Green Builder Media's Green Home of the Year award.  Editorial manager Cati O'Keefe says they chose Sungazing House because "this home exemplified how green can be both beautiful and affordable."  Learn more about it on the GetSerious blog
